Club Nights at Cheshunt
Wednesday Club Nights : April - End September (Beware of the level crossing)
These start on the first Wednesday in April, meeting at Cheshunt at 6:45 p.m. (on the water for 7pm). If it is your first time with the group, it would help if you could arrive for 6.30pm,
to go through where everything is. The session usually lasts for about two hours, but as the light warm nights come along, we come off the water by 9 p.m., although individuals can come off
when they need to (as long as they tell an instructor and sign off the water on the register).
Thursday Club Nights : May - End September
Times as above.
Saturday mornings 10 - 12 noon weekly (Except Bank Holidays).
The system for club nights works like this :-
1. On arriving at the base, you will need to ring the bell, and state you are canoeing with Edmonton. report to reception, up stairs.
At reception there is a small table on the left, with an Edmonton sign in sheet, on it. Please print your name & phone number. This is a requirement, in case of fire.
The Duty warden will direct you to our container, on the right corner of the harbour. Where you will need to sign on the register, and pay the appropriate fees.
All parts of this sheet need filling in, if you are under 18 years. Over 18's just print name and put O18, plus the fees you are paying. There will be an instructor there to help you.
2. Go and get changed (Adults) in the camping wing. (Youth) in the changing rooms. Bring your gear back to the container, and place it neatly on one of the shelves.
3. Collect your paddle and buoyancy aid. There are also some waterproofs for those who do not have their own. You may also use a spray deck as long as you have already practiced capsizing
with one in the swimming pool.
4. Collect your canoe, and get the foot rests set right.
5. Wait outside the compound until an instructor can take you on the water.
On coming off the water
Work in reverse order until everything is put away. It is your responsibility to put gear away. Remember to get help to move your boat. As this is a youth base, we ask everybody not
to carry a boat on their own. We need to set an example to the youngsters & not hurt our backs.
From April : Program on the water

6.45pm. When our instructor is on the water you may get on. Just paddle around and gently warm up. Do not go past the two wooden jettys at the entrance to the harbour.

8:15 p.m. General muck about session.
