About the equipment
The pool boats are kept strictly for pool use, and are kept in a lock up during the summer & on a vehicle during the winter, to be transported to the pools.
The remainder of our equipment is stored at the Herts Young Mariners Base, Windmill Lane, Cheshunt, Herts.
Buying your own equipment ?
Don't rush into things, try ours first. A boat spends 95% of its life sitting on the lawn, up in the roof of the garage.
The last thing you want is a boat; try as many different ones as you can, before settling on the one you want. If you want to buy something, to have the same paddle each time you paddle is
essential. You will always need a buoyancy aid, whilst on the water. Water footwear, is useful, a waterproof.
Group boats and private boats
The group owns a large amount of equipment, including over 50 canoes of varying types, both plastic and fibre glass. We also have the use of many private ones. All group owned canoes
have a Club emblem on them. White stickers are on boats that are for general use. The Prijons, Invaders and T slaloms are for the more proficient paddlers. Private canoes have the same
emblem on a yellow sticker, and are not for general use. The canoes with a half white, half yellow sticker are private boats that may be available to group users. Permission to use one of
these must be obtained from Dave Rudland or from the Group Duty Officer.
Breakages
Whilst on equipment, if you find any faulty equipment please report it to one of the leaders, so that it can be repaired. Things do get broken, you won't get shouted at.
There is nothing worse than turning up for a session, only to find broken equipment.
Returning borrowed equipment
When collecting equipment, please remember where it came from, and be sure that YOU put it back there when you come off the water.
