The Monthly July/August 2008?

Well some of the group did the sea paddle, but not at Southend, they actually paddled from opposite the London observatory up river, under several bridges. The tides where not quite right so they only did a one way trip. Some bits where a bit hairy to say the least. They finished by the Globe Theatre. Everybody learnt something, and wants to go again. On the 13th July we had our now annual Cub Scout day at Cheshunt, canoeing & kayaking. On the 20th we took a trailer load of boats over to Bury Lake, where we ran 4 x 1 hour sessions for a large Scout group.

Our weekly sessions have been continuing as usual, but the numbers are surprisingly low, mind you the weather has not been too good yet. We are trying to get a Canoe Polo area at the base, just outside the harbour.

The Monday afternoons at the base are continuing 1 - 3pm, this session is now aimed at adults, the session fee is £5.

There will be a paddle on the 10th August meet at the base at 9am back by 6pm. The venue will be up to those who want to paddle.

22-25th August, the Bank holiday weekend, we are hoping to get away, somewhere, have you any suggestions? (The base is not open over the Bank holiday weekend).

A date for your diary, we have booked Cardington for the 27th/28th September. It is an artificial White water course that we have to build, good fun for all.

Nigel Rawcliffe will shortly be stepping down from running our web site. He designed the data base & web site, plus spent many hours updating it over the years. The information on the site is often the first point of contact for new comers to our sport. His son George was a member of our canoe polo team a few years ago & is now at university. How Nigel ever found time to do all of the above, whilst keeping down a very challenging job, and playing taxi driver to all his children I will never know.

Thank you Nigel you have made a great difference to our Group.

From Gary Archer Dear Paddlers

I have spoken at length to the Nene Whitewater Centre to arrange a trip for
the Club, unfortunately the course is closed to public paddling on the 6th July
due to a Slalom event. we will rearrange a visit to the Nene for some time in August.
